Reply Metaverse Hackathon 2022 Team

Between 4–6th March, Reply held a Hackathon in the beautiful Langhe region, near Turin in Italy. It was a long weekend of intense and focused team-working to solve and explore The Metaverse and all of its possible futuristic use-cases.

Our very own Niraj Khosla shares his experience for us below.

“Have you ever been playing for hours on end on a game, gathering resources, finding rare items and thought to yourself, “There must be someone that would want to buy some of this”. Maybe you yourself have paid a couple of bucks to get some fancy new cards or items? With the metaverse looming around the corner, this industry of trading in-game resources is only going to increase.”

“A group of my colleagues (Fabio Cofano — Blockchain IT, Howard Hall-Benn Data UK, Anuj Doshi — Data UK) from the Reply Group and myself have been thinking about this problem and when Reply announced the Reply Metaverse Hackathon we leaped at the opportunity.”

“After applying we were selected to be one of the top 8 teams out of 24 to go and participate at the Hackathon, located at the beautiful vineyard of Casa di Langa, Langhe, Italy.”

“Our proposal was the “Meta-Exchange”. A RuneScape like Grand-Exchange, for the Metaverse, where we would provide a place for users to trade, barter, negotiate, buy, and sell all your excess in-game items across the metaverse.”

“Users would be able to add items to a wallet and with the use of our API these items could be seen on our front end and could be traded for.”

“This idea was both complex but also rewarding with its outcome showing a PoC of what trading can look like in the Metaverse. The idea that it could be possible to connect users in different metaverses in a united ecosystem and even allow them to trade shows how amazing the future can look!”

“We used a variety of technologies to reach our end goal; Google Firebase, Python, Flash, and Java to MOD Minecraft.”
